Ok,

I'll admit it.

Every knitter has a weakness, and mine is socks
Specifically socks made out of bright self-striping sock yarn, that make simple socks created out of knitting in the round for days on end, with easy short row heels that don't need any gusset and preserve the precious integrity of the stripes....
I think I'm about to decide that absolutely no one can have too many pairs of socks....
And well.... at least my feet have stopped growing lol

If anyone needs me I'll be in the corner....
Casting on the next pair of socks....

That would be so kewl to be able to knit socks. I do not think one can have too many socks either! That actually sounds like lots of fun!

It's actually really cool.
There are all kinds of different sock patterns to knit, but most of them are really easy too once you learn a couple of techniques. Also wool socks are really soft and comfortable, and the best part is that if you're like me and in between sock sizes, you can make socks that fit you perfectly :-D Which is great since most socks either have to stretch a lot to fit me, or are way too big. (I'm in between a big kids size and a small women's size lol

Yeah I know the feeling about sock sizes.I have the same problem. My shoe size is a size 7 in womens and a size 5 in boys. *urgh* Just between sizes! I think the concept of having self-striping sock yarn would be a good idea since none of the socks would match up and so if one is lost. I wish I knew how to follow a pattern better...

I'm a size 6 boys or size 7.5 in women's so I feel your pain ;-)

You can make socks that match in self-striping sock yarn, you just remember which colour you started at, (or write it down) and start the next sock at that same colour, and if they aren't exactly right no one will notice anyway, but some people are really picky about it, and some people aren't. But the other cool thing about having small feet is that you should be able to get 2 pairs of socks out of 3 50 g balls of wool, whereas most people would need 4 balls of wool :-D
If you want to try knitting them I can find you a couple of really easy patterns and there are a bunch of knitting videos out there showing some of the techniques that can be hard to learn just from reading the pattern. But most sock patterns (or at least the toe- up ones that I use go like this... Make the toe using whatever preferred toe making method you like (personally I like the short row toe) knit in stockinette in the round (so knit every row) until the sock measures 2 inches less than the length of your foot, put 1/2 of the stitches onto waste yarn etc. make another short row toe out of the other half of the stitches, remove stitches from waste yarn, join in the round again, knit until the leg of the sock is one inch less than desired length, do k1 p1 ribbing for an inch and then bind off in pattern ;)
It's not too hard, just have to learn how to do a short row toe

The thing that I thought was kewl about self striping yarn is that you do not really have any true pairs. That any 2 socks can be a pair.
I wish I could learn how to knit socks. I know several people who do and none of them live near me. I am going to take a knitting and crocheting class (hopefully).
I use the little tutorials in addition to having a physical teacher. This is not something that I learn easily. I just do not see how things fit together as well as others. And if I have to put things on stitch holders it just gets confusing. I have attempted to make a Christmas stocking on my own and probably am just about completed but I just do not see how all these parts fit together but I had done that on my own. Knitting in the round might be a good idea though. No seam! Another person I know who knits socks had definite right socks and left socks due to the seem. That does make sense. Thanks that just gave me more to think about. *grins*

The cool thing about the method that I use to knit socks (It's called Magic loop knitting) is that when you get to the part where you would normally have to put stitches onto waste yarn and or stitch holders, you don't have to. You just leave those stitches on the cable on the circular needles and work the other stitches back and forth to make the heel. You can also do it if you do the socks on 2 pairs of circular needles, I just prefer to not have extra needles hanging around because it seems to me it would get really confusing, really quickly.
If I lived anywhere near you I would come and teach you though :-). It is much easier to learn from real people who you can ask to move or show it again and watch from a different angle, or ask questions from than doing it online. Luckily Manna had figured out the wrapped stitches on her own for the short row toe and was able to teach me. Otherwise, I don't know how long it would have taken me to figure it out.
And I agree with you about no seam. I hate finishing, and this method gives me exactly 2 ends to weave in, the cast on and the cast off ends. And that makes me happy :-D

That does sound interesting. I need someone to have the patience and is here. I wish you could pass on the knowledge. That does sound a bit simpler. The one person that I know that really knows how to knit socks has been doing so for a long time so it is very easy for her. She can practically knit them in her sleep. It would not be that easy for me to learn. I should keep that in mind.
